Kearney Dog Sled Races Committee

2022 Dog Sled Races Canceled!

The Kearney Dog Sled Races Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone racing for one more year, canceling the race for February 2022. This was not a decision made lightly or easily. Our committee is mindful of the health and wellbeing of the small town of Kearney and all of those who travel from near and far to participate in our event year after year. We also need to take this time to rebuild and grow our committee in order to bring you an event we can truly be proud of. We thank everyone for their continued support; fans, sponsors, and racers alike. If you feel you can support the Kearney Race Committee in any way for future races, please send us an email at [email protected] you all. We miss you dearly.

See you in 2023.

Effective May 20, 2021, we welcome Kaitlynn Paquette as the Chair of the Dogsled Committee. Contact Kaitlynn for Dog Sled Advisory Committee volunteer opportunties at: [email protected]

Ontario’s largest dog sled racing event comes to “Ontario’s Biggest Little Town” every year. Kearney is a quaint community of 882 people, located just north of Huntsville, Ontario. The races are held annually in February, and they draw teams and mushers from Alaska, Quebec, Manitoba, Ontario, and the North Eastern States. Kearney hosts more than 70 competitive mushers along with novice and future mushers. This long standing tradition has been running annually since 1994.

The Kearney Dog Sled Races host five race classes of different distances for the professional or beginner musher, and the trails trek through the beautiful northern wilderness. We also host a race specifically for the up and coming young mushers. Our event attracts fans from all over the world and we keep them all updated through online postings throughout the weekend. The Kearney Dog Sled Race Committee has the mission to preserve the heritage of this exciting dog sport and to continue to support international enthusiasm for sports competition, education and awareness of this very special style of dog.
